Should disability sport be run by disabled people?
When I first started competing in sport, there seemed to be lots of disabled people involved at many levels of the organisations. There weren't a lot of paid jobs around, but that was how it was for everyone in sport. As time has gone on it has seemed to me that there have been less disabled people involved. Is this a good or a bad thing? Well I think that it is important that the voices of disabled people are heard. Whether it is around setting policy or as an inspiration for others coming through. It has long been recognised that businesses are better if women are better represented, and I also believe that this is true of disabled people in sport.
John Pring from Disability News Service has been looking at this ovver a number of years, and this is his latest findings - http://www.disabilitynewsservice.com/paralympic-movement-still-run-by-non-disabled-people-survey-shows/
